The energy calculations presented here focus exclusively on the AC compressor's energy usage and assume standard operating conditions as defined by the ASHRAE foundation. These calculations do not account for variations in system performance caused by factors such as coil fouling (e.g., dust, dirt, or debris) or any other condition that may reduce coil efficiency.

The assumed conditions include:

  • Evaporator temperature: 45°F
  • Condenser temperature: 130°F
  • Ambient temperature: 100°F
  • Indoor (room) temperature: 72°F

The calculations are based on an air conditioning system equipped with a scroll type, single phase, AC compressor. They do not account for advanced system modifications, such as the inclusion of Variable Refrigerant Valves (VRVs) or Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), which can significantly affect compressor performance.

Energy cost estimates are calculated using the national average electricity rate per kilowatt-hour. Actual energy usage and costs will vary depending on geographic location and additional factors, including but not limited to insulation quality, system design, installation specifics, thermostat settings, and environmental conditions.
